Desert Mountain

Desert Mountain is an incredibly private, guard-gated master planned community, set on 8,000 acres at Scottsdale’s northern edge in what is called the high Sonoran Desert.

The community backs up to the 4,300-foot Apache Peak with temperatures usually about 8 to 10 degrees cooler than in the metropolitan Phoenix area.

Thanks to recent highway construction and improvement, downtown Scottsdale and Phoenix are a short trip from the community.

Desert Mountain features six uniquely different privates Jack Nicklaus designed golf courses. Renegade, the oldest course, has a dual green design that enables players of varying skill levels to play from a designated tee hitting box to either a white or yellow flag. The yellow flags are longer than the whites and pin placements are generally more difficult to reach.

Renegade has been ranked as the 12th most difficult private golf course in the United States.

The Cochise course provides challenging golf amid dramatic boulder outcroppings and has been home to several Tradition events and most recently the Charles Schwab Cup has been hosted twice in the past three years.

The Geronimo course features multiple elevation changes and a nerve wracking 18th hole par 3 which is played over a canyon onto a deep bunkered two-tier green.

Apache is the most traditional desert course and is a tricky track to play especially in the wind.

Outlaw is the newest Desert Mountain course and for this writer’s money, is by far the most challenging track of the six.

The Chiricahua course has been dubbed “the most refined” boasting spectacular views into the Valley!

Four clubhouses serve the six courses. The community Sonoran Clubhouse offers a tennis complex, an “all world” fitness center with spa services and two swimming pools.

Only 168 building sites remain. Homesites at Desert Mountain are available in distinct neighborhoods throughout the community at elevations ranging from 2900 feet above sea level all the way up to 4,800 feet above sea level.

In areas such as Saguaro Forest, Cochise/Geronimo Village, Lone Mountain and Apache Peak, home sites are priced from the mid-$400,000s up to $2 million. Custom homes range $800,000 to $25,000,000.
